OOC: Memory 3
Pain.
Blinding, paralyzing pain and exhaustion were all that he felt. He knew his eyes were half-open, but it was dark. His whole body hurt from the severe beating he'd just received, not to mention the fact that he was being dragged over a cobblestone path, and there was fierce, new pain at his head, since he realized he was being pulled by his hair.
The only sound was sharp, brisk footsteps echoing into the slum. He wanted to protest at the unfairness of his situation, but it would have taken more energy than he had. Juliet felt blood slowly fall down his face as he moved, and wished he could have raised his hand to wipe it off. It's a miracle my glasses came out of that unscathed, he thought briefly.
Suddenly, he was pulled around a corner sharply and set up none too gently against a wall. The person who had been pulling him walked closer, and sighed. "You really are an idiot," they said. Their voice...it was so familiar...comforting, in a sense. He had been expecting more pain, or at least harsher words.
Juliet heard the soft rustle of fabric, and then felt a handkerchief touch his face, wiping away the blood. He found enough strength to speak. "...William...why?..."
"I can't bring you back looking so disheveled...it's a disgrace," was the response. "Even if you did get a harsh punishment at the hands of that demon, it doesn't get you out of responsibility. I'll be surprised if they don't kill you." The words were cold, but William seemed to say them almost regretfully. Still, Juliet felt alarm. "...They...not really?..."
"Of course not, we're understaffed and we need every shinigami we can, even if they are like you. Still, you'll probably be demoted and I'll have a hell of a time figuring out what to do to keep things organized while you work your way back up." Juliet sensed that William had stood back up. "Can you walk?"
"...Kind of..." Juliet said truthfully. William sighed again. "*static*, you cause me too much trouble," he muttered. Carefully supporting Juliet, he raised the redhead to his feet. "Come on then."
